demonstrate understanding of representation in the media
Q 1) What does the advert assume we know? (cultural capital) This ad assumes we know what the original show 'The Brady Bunch' is so that we can understand the joke. The ad also assumes we know who Danny Trejo is and Steve Buscemi. It also assumes we know the general 'snickers - you're not you when you're hungry' ad structure so that we can understand the joke more. Q 2) What does this advert tell us about U.S society? (aspirations/values) This ad tells the viewer that Americans enjoy humour and like to watch ads that are generally funny and lighthearted. It also tells the viewer that Americans enjoy the feeling of nostalgia or enjoy remembering things that they enjoyed in the past, like 'The Brady Bunch', and adding a new idea to the existing material, Trejo and Buscemi. Q 3) Why does this advert work? This advert works because of the amount of time and effort spent on integrating the new lines and characters into existing footage of the original show, (I will insert the BTS of the ad below this answer). The creators of the ad recreated the set, had on-set stand-ins to represent the two parents and also used the same sound equipment and cameras used to film the original episode so that they could recreate the same sound and image quality.
